Brother

Power that be is the Pakistan Army. As long as army supports him nothing will happen. Americans have already given their support to him.

Pakistan is passing through such difficult time. No general will want to topple Mush. Few days it was propagated in the International press that General Salim Hayat will take over. But nothing happened.

Whoever topples Mush, he will too have to do the dirty jobs for Americans.

Bhutto and Sharif are too tainted to have much credibility

William Richter, a South Asia political specialist at Kansas State University, says both Bhutto and Sharif are too tainted to have much credibility.

"Each can claim that the military or other forces manipulated public opinion. But I think there is enough example of corruption in each of these instances to say that they were their own worst enemies."

He adds :

"I'm not particularly optimistic that if either Benazir or Nawaz should come back into power anytime in the foreseeable future there would be that much better a prescription for Pakistani democracy."

Civil Judges have started resigning. Considering the sacrifice of giving up one's job in todays circumstances its an exemplary deed. This needs to be highlighted to praise their commitment to their profession.

Well, it just occurred to my mind and I would like you to give it a thought for a second as well.
What if, what looks like a complete chaos for His Highness, might all throughout be working out as he planned it to be.
If Musharraf indeed wants to stay in Power (which he definitely seems to love), he would do anything to make sure he does. To ensure that, there are only 3 possibilities.
1) Elections are postponed (which doesn't seem to be an easy get-away at this point in time).
2) His party is re-elected by the public opinion and they elect him as President yet again (again not a possibility without power-abuse).
3) There is political unstability in the country and Mr. Musharraf has no choice but to take corrective action to calm things down, which is Martial Law and he gets to stay in power.
If no. 3 is somehow planned to be true, there he is for as long as the situation is not under control (which he can easily make sure not to happen).
Just a thought.
